Established in 2009 through a gift from The Cole Porter Musical and Literary Trusts, The ASCAP Foundation Cole Porter Award will be presented annually to an ASCAP or unaffiliated member who writes both music and lyrics and whose work shows promise and who has participated in an ASCAP Foundation Musical Theatre Workshop. The workshop's creative team, currently led by Oscar and Grammy Award winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz will select the recipient. The Award honors the memory of ASCAP member Cole Porter, writer of such classics as "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "Night and Day." The inaugural award will be presented at The ASCAP Foundation Annual Awards Ceremony which takes place in New York City in December 2009.
